Resveratrol Health Benefits – What’s The Real Story?
If you have been researching Resveratrol online, you have probably run into many conflicting claims about Resveratrol health benefits. Some people say Resveratrol is a “miracle drug” while others say the supplement has been overhyped. So what’s the real story?
First, it helps to understand what exactly constitutes Resveratrol. Resveratrol is a naturally occurring compound known as a phytoalexin which is produced by several plants when under attack from fungi or bacteria. Resveratrol is contained in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but one would have to drink gallons of wine per day to get a high enough dosage of Resveratrol to see any effects. Most Resveratrol supplements are produced by chemical synthesis that is derived mainly from Japanese knotweed. As Resveratrol is a naturally occurring substance, there have been fewer concerns about potential side effects or negative consequences about consuming.
In numerous studies, Resveratrol’s potential health benefits have been far-ranging. Some of the properties thought to be associated with Resveratrol include:
1) Enhancement in your body cell functions,
2) Improvement in your body metabolism process,
3) Enhances the performance of your internal immune system which kills free radicals from your body; thus resulting in the slowing down of your aging process,
4) Prevents heart diseases and age related diseases like Alzheimers,
5) Acts as body colon cleanser by removing toxins and eliminating airborn as well as terrestrial bacterias and viral infections from your body,
6) Provides natural detoxification to your muscles and fat tissues which results in the natural fat loss and trimming down fatty areas of your body,
7) Boosts your internal energy levels and controls your hunger because of the rich amount of antioxidants contained in Resveratrol.
It should be noted that many of these results have only been shown in mice and rat experiments. Similar results have yet to be replicated in humans, although extensive human testing is currently underway and we should know more about this powerful antioxidant in the years to come.
So is Resveratrol the miracle drug that some claim? The bottom line is that it’s too early to tell. While early testing on mice and rats is incredibly promising, more studies need to be performed on humans to confirm the Resveratrol health benefits that have been seen to date.
Even though we need to know more about Resveratrol health benefits in humans, some notable researchers and doctors are already recommending that people start taking Resveratrol supplements. The noted “Dr. Oz” recently went on the Oprah Winfrey show to extoll the benefits of Resveratrol and revealed that he takes Resveratrol supplements himself.

Resveratrol Select Review: Don’t Get Scammed
There are dozens of Resveratrol supplements now available on the market and it’s hard to know which one to choose. Resveratrol Select has generated a lot of hype, but facts about the product and its potential effects are harder to come by. We’ll give you the straight scoop on the product here to allow you to make a decision as to whether Resveratrol Select might be right for you.
First, a little background on Resveratrol, which is a natural compound found in red wine grapes. Researchers have long noted that historically many French people drink large quantities red wine and, despite having a high fat diet, they have fewer heart and lung diseases than people in the U.S. This has been known as the “French Paradox.” Scientists now believe this might be explained by the high amount of antioxidants and polyphenols found in Resveratrol.
It was discovered in the late 90’s that Resveratrol may also be effective in slowing down the aging process and eliminating free radicals from the body. Other potential health benefits of Resveratrol include improved cardiovascular health, faster metabolism, weight loss, greater mental acuity, and prevention of certain types of cancer. Most Resveratrol studies to date have focused on mice and rats, so many of these results have not yet been demonstrated in humans.Because of the many potential benefits of Resveratrol there has been a huge amount of media coverage, including 60 Minutes, CBS News, The Discovery Channel, the Oprah Winfrey Show and many others. With this hype has also come a flood of Resveratrol supplements onto the market, some of which may be effective while some of which may not.
We do not recommend Resveratrol Select for several reasons:
It is difficult to tell how much Resveratrol you are getting with this product. Resveratrol Select ingredients include 50 mg of Polygonum cuspidatum root extract (50% resveratrol), which means you are likely getting only 25 mg of Resveratrol in each capsule. While there is no universally agreed upon dosage recommendation for Resveratrol, many researchers contend that you need to consume at least 250 mg of Resveratrol per day to see any health benefits. This means you would need to take 10 capsules of Resveratrol Select per day, far exceeding the recommended dosage from the manufacturer.
Resveratrol Select contains a large number of non-Resveratrol ingredients including chromium, green tea extract, and L-Theanine. While these ingredients might be helpful for weight loss, there is no evidence to suggest that taking them all together provides any benefits whatsoever. It’s difficult to regulate the amount of these compounds you consume when they are all blended together in one pill. If you are interested in trying some of these other ingredients, we recommend taking them separately so you can more accurately control the dosage.
Resveratrol Select contains caffeine. What many consumers don’t realize is that each capsule of Resveratrol Select contains 200 mg of caffeine, about as much as a cup of coffee. The manufacturer recommends that you take two capsules per day, which means you would be adding the equivalent of two cups of coffee per day to your diet. If you are sensitive to caffeine or already drink coffee during the day, the extra caffeine found in Resveratrol Select could produce unpleasant side effects for you.
While we do not recommend Resveratrol Select, we have carefully studied dozens of other Resveratrol supplements on the market and have found two products that we recommend highly: Resveratrol Ultra and Resvie. If you are going to buy Resveratrol supplements, we strongly recommend that you choose one of the following products:

Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the Department of Internal Medicine's Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic says "This may be the best thing since sliced bread for human beings, but we just don't know yet." This research, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, was published in the journals Nature and Cells in November, and bottles of resveratrol have been selling like wildfire ever since.
For centuries, red wine has been linked to numerous health benefits. But this new study, published online in the journal Nature, shows that mammals given ultrahigh doses of resveratrol benefit from positive effects of cutting calories without actually doing it.
"If we're right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry," Sinclair said. "It's the Holy Grail of aging research."
Resveratrol is the ingredient in red wine that made headlines in November 2007 when scientists demonstrated that it kept overfed mice from gaining weight, turned them into the equivalent of Olympic marathoners, and seemed to slow down their aging process. Few medical discoveries have generated so much instant buzz.
On 60 Minutes, Dr. Christoph Wesphal explains that Resveratrol is a naturally occurring component of red wine that can apparently extend human life.
Resveratrol is one of a group of antioxidant compounds called polyphenols found in red wine that has been reported to have anti-inflammatory as well as anticancer properties.
